Visiting Care Homes with the Heart for Music Program

This summer Heart for Music had the joy of expanding our reach by delivering support donations to four care homes already participating in our music program. These donations help sustain ongoing music programming and replace aging equipment, ensuring that residents continue to experience the joy, comfort, and connection that music brings.
We were deeply moved by the warm welcomes we received from staff at each home. Meeting with care staff, seeing the spaces where music is shared, and hearing stories from residents reminded us why this work matters so much. Here’s a glimpse into each visit.
Columbus Residence - South Vancouver
Serving the community of South Vancouver, Columbus Residence is a vibrant community where music is already a cherished part of daily life. During our visit, we were invited to witness their recreational programs in action and had the pleasure of chatting with two residents, one who shared a love for Slovenian Polka, and another whose favourite music is by The Beatles. We were happy to donate 3 tablets and a speaker to support their ongoing music programming. A heartfelt thank you to Paloma, who has been a wonderful partner in bringing music to Columbus over the years. We wish her all the best in her retirement!
Foyer Maillard - Coquitlam
Our visit to Foyer Maillard was filled with warmth and gratitude. We learned how music listening devices are being used to help residents reconnect with beloved songs, bringing both joy and calm to their days. Thanks to the generous support of the Coquitlam Foundation, we were able to donate 9 tablets to expand their Heart for Music program at Foyer Maillard, and reach even more residents with personal music playlists. We’re incredibly thankful to the staff for their hospitality and for all they do to support older adults in their care.
St. Vincent’s Langara - Vancouver
At St. Vincent’s Langara, we delivered a donation box containing speakers and music boxes designed for residents living with memory loss and physical impairments. It was a privilege to contribute to their care environment, and we’re grateful to the dedicated staff who coordinated the drop-off and continue to champion music as a therapeutic tool for seniors.
Youville Residence - Vancouver
Our visit to Youville Residence highlighted the ongoing need for updated equipment. Staff shared their excitement about receiving 4 tablets, 4 speakers, and 1 charger. These tools will help more residents engage with music in meaningful ways, and will replace outdated versions. We’re thrilled to support Youville’s efforts and look forward to seeing how these new resources enhance their programming.
Each visit reminded us of the power of music, the incredible nature of the recreation and care staff, and the need for resources like these in local care homes. We’re honored to continue growing the Heart for Music program with the support of generous donors and community partners. Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible.
