Who We Are

The Heart For Music program is for seniors in not-for-profit care homes throughout British Columbia. Created in 2019 by Rick’s Heart Foundation, we gift each care home with music equipment, customized playlists, Spotify Account support for a year, and virtual launch support.

Heart for Music has improved the well-being of 1000’s of senior residents and care home staff across British Columbia in 30 locations.

Founder, Rick Diamond of Diamond Delivery, believes that music is a powerful tool that can bring joy and comfort to seniors living with dementia as well as to those who are lonely and isolated.

Why choose the Heart for Music Program?

Research suggests that listening to music and singing songs can provide emotional and behavioural benefits for seniors, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. Musical memories are often preserved in residents with Alzheimer’s disease, because key brain areas linked to musical memory are relatively undamaged by the disease.

For example, music can:

  • Relieve stress

  • Reduce anxiety and depression

  • Reduce agitation

Music can also benefit caregivers by reducing anxiety and distress in residents, lightening the mood, and providing a way for connection residents who have Alzheimer’s disease — especially those who have difficulty communicating.
